Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, President-elect of Nigeria is expected back home on Monday after holidaying for weeks in France.

”Everybody knows”, Senator Magnus Abe said as he expressed himself on Arise News, “that in Nigeria I’m a member of the strategic team of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Tinubu who has been in France on a long recuperating holiday after the election will return to the country on Monday evening, some newspaper reports have revealed.

Abe, backed by a Yoruba elder close to Tinubu as the game hots up has been struggling hard to regain his place in the Tinubu camp.

Recall that he had moved on to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, to fulfill his life ambition and dream to contest the governorship seat of Rivers State.

But when he appeared on Arise News to speak on a number of crucial issues, Abe said while discussing the political scenario in Rivers that Tinubu’s victory in the State which shook the PDP and the Labor Party was never on the cards.

“Before I went to contest for the governorship election”, Abe tried to explain on set, “we have done our mathematics as far as the elections were concerned.”

“Honestly, Rivers is not one of the states we calculated Tinubu to win to become President of Nigeria”, Abe went on.

Governor Nyesom Wike seen stressing a point gave Tinubu the edge over Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of Nigeria’s About Party, LP.

If the calculation, according to the former governorship candidate of the SDP, was that Rivers was going to be a no win state for Tinubu, then the question rational minds are asking is, what really happened to change the dynamics of the game?

On the road to the presidential election there were serious problems and disagreements within the PDP, following the way party issues were handled.

The G5 otherwise known as the Integrity Governors who were at war with the PDP based on principles would have nothing to do with the Alhaji Atiku Abubakar campaign.

Apart from Governor Wike, other members of the G5 were Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Sam Ortom of Benue State, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and the Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Similarly, on the Rivers home front, a handful of PDP supporters pulled out of the Consolidation team to support the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and work against Wike and their kindren in the South.

They included Dr Abiye Sekibo, One-time Minister of Transport, Senator George Sekibo representing Rivers East Senatorial District, Sir Austin Opara, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps, Senator Lee Maeba who served the Rivers South East Senatorial District and Sir Celestine Omehia who was deposed as governor by the Supreme Court.

Senator Magnus Abe agrees Governor Nyesom Wike was the game changer when it comes to Tinubu’s victory in the presidential elections.

Hinting listeners on television that it was never part of the game plan at the tactical level that Tinubu would snatch Rivers State, Abe said when one looks deeply at what transpired, the game changer could only have been Wike.

Hear him speak, “In politics, dynamics changes and any smart politician will take advantage of the dynamic change.

“The coming on board of the governor of Rivers State to support Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was indeed a welcome development.

“Those of us who were supporting Asiwaju saw Wike coming on board as a positive game changing move.”

Both the PDP and LP agree with Abe’s assertion. They have long blamed Governor Nyesom Wike for swinging Rivers  votes in favor of the President-elect and the APC.

Wike had maintained that his only aspiration was to get a Southerner to occupy Aso Rock, particularly after some greedy elements in the PDP upturned the zoning arrangement which had kept the party together in the past.

There are already strong indications that Wike may emerge as a major player in the Tinubu administration.

What is not clear is what role the man who is credited with transforming the Rivers State will play

Some are suggesting that Wike would serve as an influential Minister when the time comes.
