Etche Women Vow to support PDP’s Sim
Prominent female professionals and politicians in Etche have vowed to participate articulately in the forthcoming campaign effort to elect Sir Siminalayi Fubara as the next Governor of Rivers State.
They have also pledged to work astutely to ensure the emergence of all PDP candidates in Etche.
The leader of the women, Barrister Gloria Akor gave the undertaking when they visited Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, a former Commissioner of Commerce & Industry and former member of the National Assembly who is a chieftain of the PDP.

Barrister Akor explained that women in Etche have come together to contribute effectively to the growth and development of the Rivers State and their ethnic nation in particular.
She declared that women would work for the evolution of a society that is just, fair and humane; and a society which works for the benefit of the people and the advancement of their children.

Also speaking, Mrs Uche Ken who has had a stint as the Vice Chairman of the Etche Local Government Council said the women were determined to the progress of the PDP and the promotion of the candidates of the party.
Responding, Chief Nwuke lauded Etche women for coming together at this time to support the PDP under the able leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike who has committed himself in the last seven years to the development of the State.
He said that the Governor has shown great interest in promoting the cause of Rivers women and ensuring that their rights are protected.
Nwuke cited the recent passage of a law that would henceforth change age-long customary practices which deny women born in the State of the right to inheritance.
He traced the effort by the Etche nation to invest in the growth of women education as well as their enlightenment to the sixties when the Etche Girls Seconday School was founded.

Nwuke recalled that the bold step to ensure that Etche girls have a promising future was taken by Chief J.H.E Nwuke and his associates when many in that era believed that the best place for the woman was in the kitchen.
The frontline journalist and politician said he was proud of the accomplishments of Etche women some of who have become professors, senior lecturers, lawyers, hard-nosed professionals and administrators .
Nwuke urged them to work tirelessly for the emergence of the first Senator of Etche extraction and all the other candidates that are running on the platform of the PDP.
He thanked the women for their visit, saying their success story as female politicians would depend largely on their unity of purpose and common resolve to participate actively in the political process.
In her vote of thanks, Mrs Mekuri Uzo Ndimele expressed gratitude to Chief Nwuke for granting them audience at short notice.
She said the women will relent in their effort to join hands with all those who are willing to work for the advancement of the Etche nation and the emancipation of the entire Rivers State.
