A number of persons reportedly acting as informants to kingpins engaged in abducting innocent Nigerians in the federal capital territory and asking for ransom have been picked up for questioning by security agents.
The arrest of criminal minded collaborators who are endangering lives of ordinary people is coming on the heels of increasing public concerns as well as streneous efforts being made by the Federal Government and the Federal Capital Territory Authority, FCTA, to ensure residents are kept safe.
Last week, security agents arrested an Igbo man named Chinaza whose gang kidnapped an unsuspecting Abuja resident of Yoruba extraction.
Chinaza was caught along the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano route by agile security men who were on duty.
It was a bitter sign that what most worried Nigerian people see as acts of insurgency, particularly in northern Nigeria, may be carried out by unscrupulous persons who might have no direct link with pro-Islamic insurgents.
Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, who on Friday held a townhall meeting at Gwagwalada revealed that an undisclosed number of lookouts who provide kidnap kingpins with vital information on the status and movements of kidnap victims are now in custody.

The minister however did not disclose where the arrests took place, but he told a meeting attended by stakeholders in the Gwagwalada Area Council zone that it will no longer be business as usual.
He urged residents not to panic, promising there will be remarkable improvement in Abuja’s security architecture.
Those who attended the townhall meeting included the Gwagwalada area council chairman, traditional rulers, security operatives and residents.
Meanwhile, Nigerian soldiers have successfully raided the camp of a notorious terrorist, Adamu Aliero.
Aliero is wanted by Nigerian security agents in connection with several barbaric acts, including murder, banditry and terrorism.
The exact location of the camp pounded by soldiers at the weekend have not been disclosed but military sources say there was an intense exchange of gunfire between the soldiers and the terrorists.
Details relating to the operation are still hazy. There are however strong indications that the early morning raid was successful.
The assault successfully conducted by gallant soldiers is part of ongoing efforts by the Bola Tinubu administration to neutralise terrorists who are troubling the country.
