The head of Nigeria’s secret police, Yusuf Magaji Bichi has been eased out of office by the Tinubu administration.
In his place, a new Director General, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi is now to direct the affairs of the secret police otherwise known as the Department of State Services.
Recall that Bichi who served for slightly more than one year under the government of President Bola Tinubu emerged as the head of the secret service in 2018 during the administration of President Mohammadu Buhari.
Bichi’s replacement may likely result in changes that are not unconnected with the way the service has been run in the past few years.
The new Director-General of the DSS, Adeola Ajayi, rose through the ranks to attain his current post of Assistant Director-General of the Service.
At various times, he had served as State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed is now to act as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA.
His appointment is coming on the heels of the resignation of Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar from office.
Abubakar led the NIA for a period of seven years before willingly bowing out of office on Saturday.
Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu thanked Bichi and Abubakar for their services to the nation.
The Commander-in-Chief expressed the hope that the new spy chiefs would come to the table with a wealth of experience which would revolutionise the operations of the intelligence agencies.
