Governor Siminalayi Fubara has mocked those he describes as enemies of his State who say the monetary allocation of Rivers State has fallen off “one bridge” on its way from Abuja, saying their wicked agenda to ensure workers enjoy a “dark” or  “black Christmas” has failed.
Fubara who spoke in Port Harcourt at the official launch of this edition of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day in honour of the nation’s fallen heroes said Rivers workers have not only earned their salary for the month of November, they have also earned between N120,000 and N140,000 minimum wage.
The State’s number one citizen was reacting to attempts  by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and his supporters to stop the payment of workers and frustrate good governance.
“Some persons who have decided to be enemies of this State”, the Governor noted, “wanted us to experience a black Christmas, but because we are determined to make sure that the interest of Rivers State should be the first thing, we were able, not easy, but to meet our obligations as a government.”
Fubara said that his administration has no intention to inflict pain on Rivers people.
Instead, he said, he has fought like gallant soldiers truly do to protect the State from enemies who are constantly hatching plans to create chaos and unending disaffection among the people.

“Today, I can say boldly that our civil servants are happy, even in the face of all the propaganda that the State’s allocation fell under one bridge.

“We are now the first State that did not just make the promise but have lived up to that promise.

“Today, civil servants that were collecting N70,000 are jubilating with N120,000, N140,000”, the Governor remarked.

According to him, it is not sufficient for any government to embark merely on a couple of development projects alone, saying what really matters while serving the people is to touch lives.

“What is the greatest joy any government can achieve”, Fubara asked, “You might do some projects, but the most important thing is the happiness that you leave in the hearts of people.

“People will forget that Sir Dr Peter Odili built this Banquet Hall, but they won’t forget the story of when they couldn’t pay their children’s school fees because of poor salary.

“But with their salary now improved, they will always remember that, and say look, if not for that government, this my son wouldn’t have been a graduate; if not for that salary, this my son would not be a lawyer; he will not be a judge; he will not be an engineer.

“So, the most important thing is making sure that Rivers people are first in everything we do.”
