The All Progressives Congress which has reaped huge political capital through the inflow of members of other political parties to its fold is struggling very hard through the Presidency to divert public attention from the loss of some political heavyweights to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

A statement by Bayo Onanuga, a Senior Special Adviser to the President claimed the APC would not mourn the departure of the bigwigs.

They are Rotimi Amaechi, Kashim Imam, Abubakar Malami, Hardi Sirika and Rauf Aregbeshola and Chief John Odigie Oyegun.

The Presidency claimed these persons associated with the APC who are united by their hate for the President have long left the party.

“Some members of the hijacked ADC, who were reported as members of the APC, left the APC years and months ago”, Onanuga said in the statement.

“Rotimi Amaechi’s soul”, according to him, “left the APC in 2022 after losing the presidential primary to President Tinubu” while “Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney-General, has never hidden his estrangement from the APC since Tinubu assumed leadership and since he lost the governorship bid in Kebbi.”

“Hadi Sirika, now with the ADC, is facing trial for contract splitting and other allegations”, the statement disclosed while “The renegade Rauf Aregbesola committed anti-party activities in the last Osun election and was expelled as an unfit APC member.”

Onanuga declared in reaction to opposition claims that people are beginning to leave the APC, “Let the public not be deceived by the opposition’s narrative about their relevance.”

The statement had harsh words for two elderly statesmen who are pioneering the takeoff of the ADC.

“Kashim Imam and the octogenarian Chief John Odigie Oyegun are among the disgruntled politicians posturing as would-be saviours of Nigeria.

“Imam abandoned the APC after failing to secure the vice-presidential ticket in 2022. Chief Oyegun, a former party chairman, also lost interest in the APC and has been a foundational member of this coalition since its inception”

The Presidency urged Nigerians to ignore the former party members who crossed over to ADC, saying: “Keep your eyes wide open. A political party with no clear agenda or ideology—whose members are united only by their hatred for President Tinubu—cannot be good for our country. It will only set us back by decades.

“These politicians are desperados, hungry for power, not for the benefit of Nigerians but for themselves. They want power at all costs because they cannot endure another four years in the political wilderness…”

Apparently referring to them as strange bedfellows, the statement said it will not be long before these men unravel themselves in front of Nigerian

Earlier, Rotimi Amaechi had announced his resignation from the APC while unveiling the leadership of the ADC. He revealed he withdrew his membership of the party Tuesday night.

He said the idea was not to initiate a change of government. He said the aim was to change Nigeria, saying the system had failed to address real issues.

Amaechi accused INEC and the APC of planning to sabotage the 2027 general elections in the country.
