Reports reaching our news desk indicate that delegates from Kaduna State have endorsed Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the Dan Amanar of Katsina and former Minister of Transportation.

Amaechi whose resignation ought to be on the President’s desk given the expiration of the Monday deadline, met with Kaduna delegates.

The former governor of Rivers State said he would take Nigeria to the next level, promising that he would preserve the legacies of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He urged the delegates to back his aspiration, saying he would attack issues of national interest the same way he went about developing the rail sector.

“I told you when you made that pledge to Asiwaju that others may not come, because of what you have done” Governor Nasir El-Rufai said when he addressed the delegates.

“You made that choice without listening to anyone else”, he continued, “Today you have seen the difference. You’ve heard Amaechi, you’ve seen what he has done. And he has brought a very strong security team. So you know what will happen with our security if he is in charge.”

He wondered what delegates would do now that they have come face to face with the Dan Amanar.

“What are you going to do? Who are you supporting now? You have a huge burden on you, and you must choose what is best for Kaduna and for Nigeria.”

Apparently gladdened by Amaechi’s delivery, the Governor of Kaduna State remarked, “Let me tell you my history with Governor Amaechi….When we started discussing with the G-7, the seven governors that wanted to defect to the APC, I was holding nocturnal meetings with Governor Amaechi and Governor Nyako of Adamawa State until we got five of them to move to our party, and that was the game changer.

“And for you to understand how difficult it is, imagine Governor Amaechi of Rivers State from the same South South with incumbent President Jonathan.

“He made the sacrifice to move to our party. It was a game changer. This is part of the reason why President Buhari loves Minister Amaechi till tomorrow.

“One time the SSS wanted to arrest me, that I wrote something. Governor Amaechi called and said I will take you there and I will not leave until they let you go, what did you do? He took me there in his car and stayed there until they let me go. Till tomorrow, my wife will never forget that. Amaechi is her favourite Nigerian.

“So I want to ask you two questions. Are we in Kaduna state APC committed, as a matter of fairness and justice, to the presidency of Nigeria going to the south?

The delegates said “yes”.

“Now the second thing. You’ve seen Governor Amaechi. You’ve heard his history, you’ve listened to his speech. What are you going to do? Who are you supporting now?”

The delegates chanted “Dan Amanar”, while some others chanted “your choice”.

For clarity, El-Rufai asked again, “are you supporting Dan Amanar” and the majority reportedly chorused “yes”.

Reacting, “I thought you said you were supporting Asiwaju[Tinubu]. You know, people say that delegates will never see heaven. Because today you say something, tomorrow you do another thing.

“You are the delegates. I have only one vote. You are the leaders of the party in Kaduna. Whatever you decide is what we will do.”

Speaking on behalf of the delegates, Yusuf Zailani, speaker of the State House of Assembly, said the Kaduna delegates have reached the conclusion to give all their votes to Amaechi.
