….PDP flag bearer to emerge today
Any moment from now, delegates of the People Democratic Party in Rivers State will be filing out to elect the party’s gubernatorial flag bearer.
Already, the Obi Wali Conference Centre, venue of the gubernatorial primaries is jam-packed.
Seated at the venue as the time of voting draws close are major party stakeholders and delegates.
Also present are representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and National officers of the PDP charged with the conduct of the exercise.
While major stakeholders are in the hall as observers, the delegates would bear the burden of choosing Wike’s would-be successor.
From all indications, most PDP members appear favourably disposed to the zoning of the ticket to the Riverine parts of the State.
Our information is that there are three aspirants in the race. Two are from the Riverine while one is from the Upland area which has held unto power for nearly 24 years.
The Riverine aspirants are Dax George Kelly, Similayi Fubura and Kamalu who is in the race from the Ogoni speaking areas.
The Telegraph which is on ground reports that Governor Nyesom Wike is being awaited.
His arrival would coincide with the commencement of voting.
