CALL OUT WIKE, ABATI TELLS TINUBU
By PHC Telegraph
A prominent anchor of the Morning Show on Arise News, Dr Reuben Abati has asked President Bola Tinubu to call out Barrister Nyesom Wike, following his alleged role in the crisis that is rocking Rivers State.
Speaking on the show Tuesday, Abati welcomed the directive by the President to the police urging it to quell the arson and destruction of public property.
The former Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Guardian Newspaper acknowledged that Tinubu who reacted to the situation in Rivers had mentioned the name of the Governor of Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara in connection with the crisis.
But he said that it was unfair for the President not to name his Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike who is neck deep in the escalating crisis in Rivers State.
“The President has mentioned Fubara”, Abati said on the popular morning show, ” He should mention Wike. ”
It is still not clear why President Tinubu did not call out Wike when he ordered the police to swing into action.
The root cause of the problem in the oil-rich state is traceable to the refusal of the Rivers people and their elected Governor to allow Wike’s dominance of the apparatus of Government and the governance of the State after he quit office.
The fight between Wike and Fubara has lasted one whole year and there is no indication that it would end any time soon.
There are increasing calls across the country for Wike to be eased out of the Federal Executive Council now that the president is considering a cabinet reshuffle.
Nigerians are saying that he is hiding under the banner of the Tinubu administration to cause mayhem in an otherwise peaceful state that he once governed.
Wike appeared on Channels Television Tuesday night to defend himself and justify his decision to work against the PDP in the last presidential elections.
He accused Fubara of failing to obey court orders and said that is fight against the PDP’s Presidential candidate was stoutly influenced by his resolve to do battle with injustice.
As Governor, many remember Wike reportedly flouted several court orders, brutally supressed the Rivers opposition and refused as a supposed democrat to share the political space with anyone who had an alternative political viewpoint.
It is doubtful, right thinking Rivers people say, if Wike realises that he is doing a lot of injustice to the State by allegedly fueling crisis and confusion.
