“I’m not leaving the APC” Nasir El-Rufai,  former governor of Kaduna State said last night while fielding questions on Prime Time.
“The APC has left me”, El-Rufai said on set, telling millions of viewers scattered across the country who were hooked unto Arise News,  ” I’m stranded.”It would be the first time that the highly controversial politician would grant a media interview since security related concerns denied him an opportunity to work with the Tinubu administration.

He said on national television that he was seriously disappointed by the APC’s inability to fulfill promises made to the Nigerian people.

“I am not ready to retire from politics”, the Kaduna strong man remarked on air, “so sooner or later, I may have to find another platform to pursue those progressive values that I believe in.”

El-Rufai who hasn’t gotten along with the Tinubu administration threatened that he would look elsewhere for salvation if he cannot find those values in the APC.

The former Governor affirmed he is still a member of the party, but insisted that he blames the APC for abandoning its defining principles and keeping a lot of Nigerians in the dark when it comes to matters that are playing out in the country

“We founded that party (APC) based on certain values, but the party has drifted away from them”, El-Rufai disclosed.

“I am a founding member of the APC and I am still a member of the APC, but I have concerns about how the party is being run.

“I feel like a father who has given birth to a child, knowing the investment, efforts, and sacrifices made to establish the APC as an internally democratic party with progressive ideas”, the former governor explained.

El-Rufai further declared, “In two years, the party has not met, so no one, to the best of my knowledge, has any insight into what has gone wrong.”

Expressing his personal view about the PDP,  the politician said he has never nursed any plan to join forces with the PDP, stating, “One thing I can tell you for sure is that PDP is not a party that I will go to, ever.”

He said the PDP “has gotten worse”, an obvious reference to what many see as growing cases of indiscipline that have enveloped the party, saying “so you can rule that out.”

On his alleged ambition to participate in the 2027 presidential race, El-Rufai threw out claims that he has already embarked on political consultations.

As he put it, “Anyone above the age of 35 with a secondary school certificate is qualified to run for president, so in that sense, I am qualified. But have I started talking to anybody about running for any office? No,”
