Fubara’s Rising Profile Redraws Rivers Political Map, Raises Questions Over Wike’s Waning Grip

Port Harcourt — Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political standing appears to be on a steady ascent within the All Progressives Congress (APC), with recent developments suggesting a growing acceptance of his leadership by President Bola Tinubu’s inner circle and the party’s national hierarchy.
Multiple signals have reinforced this perception. National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, recently quoted President Tinubu as expressing satisfaction with Fubara’s performance in Rivers State, a remark that has resonated within both party and security circles.

The governor has also been named to the APC’s conflict resolution committee, a role traditionally reserved for figures considered loyal, level-headed and capable of managing internal party disputes.
Beyond Abuja, party insiders say Fubara has been instrumental in mobilising grassroots and elite support for President Tinubu in Rivers State, a development the APC views as critical in consolidating its foothold in the oil-rich South-South region.
Taken together, these moves suggest that Fubara is no longer seen merely as a state-level actor, but as a governor with growing national relevance.
