A new National Party Chairman who is expected to lead the All People Congress, APC to the next elections has emerged.
He is Professor Nentewe Yilwatda from Plateau State in Nigeria’s North Central region.
The new chairman replaces Abdullahi Kanduje, former Governor of Kano State who stepped aside recently, following moves to reposition the APC.
Professor Yilwatda pledged after taking the oath office that he would work with APC leaders to unite the party, promote internal democracy and ensure that the APC remains a formidable side.
He described the party as a vehicle and its members as mechanics, saying that their contributions towards its maintenance would take the vehicle through bumpy and rough terrain to its destination.
Yilwatda said he had accepted the trust, confidence and responsibility placed on his shoulders and promised to work with party leaders to transform the APC into a strong fighting force.
Earlier, the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma who doubles as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum addressed party leaders, pledging their unflinching support for President Bola Tinubu.
With the emergence of a national chairman, the APC appears ready now for the long haul, especially as opposition forces in the country rally behind the African Democratic Congress.
Tinubunomics, another name for the President’s economic policies, which is criticised by the opposition appears to be picking up steam even as heavyweights from rival political parties drift towards the APC and other politicians, including those from the APC embrace the ADC.
From all indications, the impact of those policies on the Nigerian people as 2027 draws close would be at the centre of the campaign which promises to be fierce.
