Chief of Staff: Ehie’s Dream, Not Yet In Sight

Governor Siminalayi Fubara keeps many Rivers people guessing over the issue of who his choice of a Chief of Staff will be.

Has Governor Siminalayi Fubara anointed Edison Ehie as his Chief of Staff?

This is the million-dollar question that most people in Rivers State are asking, due to the confusion that has arisen as a result of Hon. Ehie’s purported appointment.

Social media platforms have been awash all day with reports which claimed that Ehie was sworn in as Chief of Staff  on Wednesday night after the Rivers State Governor who visited Bayelsa State returned to Government House.

Recall that social media reports had earlier disclosed that the lawmaker who resigned his membership of the Rivers State House of Assembly on the 29th of December, 2023, has been named the Chief of Staff.

Curiously, as at the time of this report, no official statement  has been released by the government either confirming the appointment or denying the purported swearing in ceremony which allegedly took place last night.

Insiders who spoke with this medium insist Fubara has neither appointed a new Chief of Staff nor sworn in anybody.

The Port Harcourt Telegraph has gathered through a source that Ehie’s name is on a list of persons that are already being considered for the top job.

In some political circles, the name of Clapton Ogolo, a strong Ubani politician and close associate of the Rivers governor, is being dropped as one of those who may be vying for the position.

Chidi Amadi, named Chief of Staff by Governor Siminalayi Fubara in the beginning, may not stand a chance in a dozen even if he makes it to the shortlist that some insiders are talking about, given the kind of sentiment that is being peddled at the moment.

So, who could be serving Rivers people and other Nigerians that are following events that are constantly unfolding in Rivers State with false and misleading reports?

Could it be part of a plan by fifth columnists within the Fubara team to embarrass Ehie and portray him as someone who is in a hurry to twist the Governor’s arm in a bid to step into the shoes of the Chief of Staff?

Could it be a ploy by spin doctors who think Ehie sacrificed so much in course of the fight between Gov. Fubara and the Assembly to put the former lawmaker in the public eye?

Ehie appears to be popular among youthful elements who are pro -Fubara activists according to what we are learning.

But the race for the office of Chief of Staff is getting very stiff, strong and more intriguing.

In the meantime, all eyes are turned in the direction of the State Governor who is busy building new friendly relations. Will he depend on advice or will he pick his own man?

With the social media continously  dishing all kinds of information to the public, it is becoming difficult nowadays to determine what piece  of news is dependable and what piece of unfounded information‍ has simply dropped from the blues?

Who will Fubara favour? Who will he settle for when the time comes? Will he be driven by considerations that are ethnic – oriented or would State interest be the driving force?

Only time will tell.
