President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally inaugurated the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, charging members to mobilise voters across the country ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
The inauguration took place on Wednesday, October 14, at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, with senior government officials, APC leaders and prominent politicians from other political parties in attendance.
Tinubu told members of the council that their political assignments would be measured by their ability to mobilise support and deliver votes in their respective constituencies.
The President, who chairs the campaign council, expressed confidence in the APC’s organisation and called for unity among its members.
He nevertheless assured Nigerians that his constitutional responsibilities would remain a priority throughout the campaign period.

According to him, the demands of governance would not be abandoned because of electioneering activities.
The campaign council has Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as first and second vice-chairmen respectively.
Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, is Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma serves as secretary.
Other prominent members include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.
The council also features politicians outside the APC, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Wike has been assigned responsibility for campaign coordination in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
The appointments reflect the APC’s attempt to bring together political allies across party lines in support of Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Speaking at the inauguration, party leaders praised the administration’s economic reforms and expressed confidence in its campaign programme.
However, opposition figures have criticised the composition of the council and questioned the government’s handling of economic hardship, insecurity and unemployment.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the campaign organisation of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde have raised objections to the APC’s campaign lineup and political record.
With the inauguration completed, attention is shifting to grassroots mobilisation and the arguments the major presidential candidates will present to voters.
Tinubu is seeking a second term against an opposition field that includes Atiku Abubakar of the ADC, Peter Obi of the NDC and other presidential contenders.
The campaign is expected to focus heavily on economic conditions, security, public services and the performance of the incumbent administration.
