There are speculations that the leader of the Biafran struggle and Supreme head of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu may have fled the United Kingdom.
Kanu who has been allegedly using that Commonwealth country as a base for coordinating what the Nigerian authorities see as acts of terrorism might be on the run, following diplomatic maneuvers, championed by the country of his birth.
Information filtering in suggest that the Nigerian government which has been fighting to quell disturbances in the South East may have formally asked the British for his extradition.
Nigeria is believed to have made the move two weeks ago through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs which is responsible for managing external relations.
Nations have a right under existing international protocols to seek the extradition of persons who live abroad, but who are accused of committing heinous crimes against humanity or against them.
We are yet to obtain an independent confirmation of what might be Kanu’s bid to find asylum in another country, but there are indications that Interpol has reportedly swung into action with a mandate to arrest the Biafran warlord.
The Will, a publication which has roots online reports that the fugitive has been spotted in Canada, a move which may however, suggest that Kanu might be trying to acquire a safe haven outside the United Kingdom.
There are reports that Kanu has purportedly written to the leader of the free world, President Joe Biden of United States.
Self acclaimed Biafrans claim that Kanu’s letter is intended to explain the genesis of the demand for a separate state of Biafra, and persuade the United States to back the struggle to dismantle Nigeria because of alleged hostile acts against the Igbo nation.
The US is presently collaborating with Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
Although the US has not volunteered military aid, it is however public knowledge that Washington is sharing information with Nigeria.
