The APC has reiterated that there were no legal obstacles at the time it conducted its ward congresses in Rivers State.
Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, Spokesman for the APC said during an interactive radio programme broadcast Thursday by Wish FM, “There were no impediments on the way.”
He said it was necessary to clear the air in order to leave no one in doubt about what transpired.
“We did not disobey any court order”, Nwuke said in response to a question, stressing, “We respect the rule of law.”
He said fears raised over the ruling of the Supreme Court in Jegede vs Akeredolu in relation to the conduct of APC’s congresses were misplaced.
Saying the Supreme Court made no pronouncement on the Chairman, Nwuke remarked, “Buni was not on trial.”
He noted that the operational term in Section 183 ought to be “paid employment”, arguing that there. Is no evidence Mai Bala Buni who is a State Governor was serving the party in order to enjoy financial benefits.
There is no doubt that the split decision is generating a lot of interest, Nwuke observed, “What should be prevalent in law should be the majority position.
“If minority positions” were to be compelling, the APC Spokesman argued, “then there would be no need for majority decisions.”
Nwuke stressed that it was important for the APC to go ahead with the template set by the Caretaker Committee, noting that there was no reason whatsoever to ditch the ongoing congresses.
Turning attention to the alleged crisis in the Rivers APC, said of those who have refused to revalidate their membership; who have refused to comply with recommendations made by several mediation committees; were the ones trying to stir trouble.
He dismissed claims peddled by Abe and his associates who are alleging that they were denied forms by the party.
Nwuke added that the National Committee led by Amina Ibrahim Gamawa had explained that those who presented photocopies of Bank Tellers instead of originals obtained at the point of transaction were denied access to forms.
