Governor Nyesom Wike has justified the decision of his party to move against Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State who decamped to another party with PDP’s mandate.
Wike said while speaking at the commissioning of the Eastern By-Pass project, dualized by his administration, that Umahi does not need to look elsewhere to find those who are championing his removal from office.
“We are PDP”, the Rivers Governor remarked, “we went to court” to ask Umahi to “give us our property back.”
“I am involved”, Wike said in response to Umahi’s allusion that there were people outside his State who are behind the court case filed against him.
The Rivers Governor vowed that the PDP would go to any length to ensure that office holders do not defect to a new political platform with the mandate received from another party.
Governor Wike noted that the apology made by Governor Umahi to Justice Inyang Ekwo, the Federal High Court Judge, who ruled on his matter is coming rather too late.
Wike observed that Umahi called “someone a thief in the marketplace” and wondered what use his apology would serve.
He berated the APC, which claims it wants the independence of the judiciary, for earlier voting down a bill intended to enhance the welfare of judicial officers.
The Governor said the APC should be ashamed for working against the automony of the judiciary.
Wike lashed out at the leadership of the NDDC for reneging on an initial agreement that said the government would bear 50% of the cost of construction of the Eastern By-pass while the NDDC, would take care of the rest.
He assured the Rivers people that his administration will continue to embark on the commissioning of projects until its last day in office.
“We will continue to do the work until our tenure is over”, Wike stressed
Commissioning the road project, the former Governor of Kogi State said Wike has emerged as the best performing governor in the entire country.
He said he was happy to be associated with Governor Wike and expressed optimism that the Rivers Governor would have the opportunity to serve the nation in higher capacity.
