The decision of the PDP to go for a gubernatorial candidate from the Rivers South East, a PDP chieftain has said, is intended to ensure fairness and equity in the power sharing process.
Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, former member of the National Assembly who participated via zoom in a political programme, Open Conversation broadcast on Atlantic Television Friday morning said that although the Rivers West and the Rivers East Senatorial Districts have produced governors, the Rivers South East has not.

He however admitted that the area had in the past produced Deputy Governors.
But he said the PDP was offering the people of the Rivers East, the opportunity to produce the next governor of the State so they could be on equal footing with those in the Rivers West and the Rivers East respectively.
In answer to a question, Nwuke described politics as a game of great passion and emotion, saying only one candidate could have emerged through the process.
While acknowledging that delegates had voted in line with their conscience, conversations were already ongoing within the PDP in order to ensure party unity.
He said despite kites that are being flown, suggesting some kind of division within the party, PDP leaders including Sir Austin Opara and Felix Obuah are in Abuja for the convention that will elect a presidential candidate.
Nwuke expressed confidence in the ability of the party to resolve all kinds of difference if any through its conflict resolution mechanism.
