Breaking: PDP Convention officially underway, delegates file in

Delegates who are participating in Saturday’s special convention designed to elect the presidential flag bearer of the PDP are filing in after going through the accreditation process.

Rivers delegates are already seated at the venue where they are waiting to vote overwhelmingly for their son.

Our political Correspondent reports that Governor Wike has clearly emerged as one of the leading favourites in the presidential race.

The National Chairman of the party is yet to arrive at the venue, but we have learnt that the presidential aspirants would address delegates directly on their intentions.

A period of five minutes has been allocated to each of the presidential aspirants.

Some of the presidential aspirants have arrived at the venue, suggesting that the event is now good to go.

Behind the scene moves as voting draws close:

There are indications that there are ongoing meetings even as delegates take their seats at the convention ground to see whether a consensus arrangement could be agreed on.

We have also heard there were pressures at the last minute to put off the PDP’s special convention, but other forces within the party, including governors rejected the move.

It is not known if party leaders have reached an agreement at this time, but it is evident, there is no stopping the moment that most PDP members are truly waiting for.

Wike may win PDP’s Presidential primary

Feelers emerging from Abuja, where serious horse-trading is still going on, suggest Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is likely to be returned as the winner of the Presidential primaries.

Although efforts are being made to arrive at a probable solution through consensus, according to accounts that are making the round here in Abuja, the prevailing atmosphere at the venue suggests Wike may scale the PDP hurdle.

Wike is not running a poster campaign. His message of a new vision for Nigeria is resonating.

Late last night aspirants made their last rounds, reaching out to State delegations and asking for votes from persons that one serving state governor from the South West described as “delicate delegates.”

Signals that are being received show most delegates from the different states appear to have made up their minds on who to vote for.

Three out of every five delegates spoken to are seemingly willing to go along with the candidature of the Rivers Governor.

Votes to count:

Approximately 800 delegates are participating. Their votes are expected to count.

On the whole, 15 aspirants would be on the ballot although one of them has reportedly stepped aside. Will there be more as the day wears on?
