FG releases N185b to states, FCT

The 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory are to receive a total sum of N185,000,000,000 from the coffers of the Federal Government.

This is part of moves by the nation’s central government which removed petroleum subsidy to assist the various states with the provision of palliatives to the people.

A breakdown of the figure indicates that each state in the federation will receive five billion naira each.

The Federal Capital Territory which is expected to have Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike as its Minister will similarly get N5b.

Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum made the disclosure in Abuja on Thursday shortly after the meeting of the National Economic Council, NEC.

Speaking to correspondents covering the State House, Zulum hinted that the NEC meeting looked at how the Federal as well as State Governments would partner to provide the people with much needed palliatives.

He hinted that the council resolved that the assistance of the Federal Government would be required to enable states and the Federal Capital Territory provide palliatives that will help to cushion the impact of subsidy removal.

Vice President Kashim Shettima presided over the National Economic Council meeting.

The council is made up of governors of the 36 states, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (BN) and other coopted government officials.
