The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has been having a quiet time since his arrival in Rivers State despite open threats by some persons daring him to set foot on Rivers soil.

Wike who is believed to be at war with the incumbent Governor,  Siminalayi Fubara has been in the State since Friday.

While here, the Minister whose supporters resigned in mass from the administration headed by Fubara has been going about his pursuits as a free born and law abiding citizen.

He was spotted at a burial at Eleme where Chief Ejor, a former council chairman and one of Eleme’s political leaders buried his mother.

Nyesom Wike and other invited guests pictured standing at the occasion.

More than that, his visit may have provided an immense opportunity for him to meet with his people who went in and out of his country home, happy that the leader had made the trip to see them.

The Acting State Chairman of the PDP (right) was also present at the occasion to pay his last respect to Ejor’s mum.

Those who issued damning threats were nowhere to be seen when the Minister arrived his home-state and made his way to his destination on Friday.

“Those are empty threats” said a Wike supporter who just spoke to the Port Harcourt Telegraph.

We had already uploaded the story to the website when we got his reaction. The Telegraph had sought his view on the matter.

“There are things we will respond to, not this one. Some of the comments that she made are actionable. Goodhead will not be covered by parliamentary privilege if those she slandered decide to go to court”, the source who did not want his name in print added.

Wike, a home boy and an astute political strategist, would obviously return to Abuja later in the day to attend to national duties as minister.

Meanwhile,  the Rivers National Assembly Caucus has reacted to threats and insults hurled at the Minister by Boma Goodhead, a federal lawmaker representing the Akuku Toru/Asari Toru Federal Constituency.

Goodhead had levied weighty allegations against Wike and some of his friends, accusing them of conspiring to kill Bako Angbashim, a Police Divisional Officer.

Angbashim was slain by members of a murderous gang in Ahoada East while on official duty.

Leader of the caucus, Dum Dekor urged Goodhead to apologise to Wike, following the offensive words uttered during a rally in which she took part.

She had laid several allegations and dared Wike to step foot on Rivers soil.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Visitor to the Rivers University at the weekend attended the graduation ceremony organised by the institution to say farewell to students who would enter the job  market in search of work.

Whereas Wike got about his normal business unchallenged on Saturday, Governor Siminalayi Fubara was at the Rivers State University to participate in its graduation ceremony.

Fubara who is the Visitor in his capacity as the governor pledged financial support for the institution, saying he was happy that all subjects taught at the university have been properly accredited.

He acknowledged the stumbling block posed by the paucity of funds, but said that the university has demonstrated commitment to the actualization of core academic values.

Fubara assured that his administration would strive to make the Rivers State University one of the best in the country.

According to him, funds which will be released by government would be used to  provide vital support for the pursuit of academic excellence, the provision of additional infrastructure and develop its new campuses that are expected to create better conducive environments for learning.

Recall that Fubara had stormed the university shortly after unknown persons infiltrated a female hostel and carried out heinous activities.

Now, Fubara has his hands on the throttle as navigates the administration that he inherited from Wike through trying times.

It is obvious from the look of things that there so many potholes along the route as he streneously struggles to drive the ship of State and ensure that it stays on course.
