A former Senator who represented Southern Kaduna in the Senate has admitted that Nigeria’s security agents engaged in combat with non State actors are using sophisticated weapons propelled by technology to salvage the country.
Although Sani did not spill much, he apparently revealed that Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, UAVs utilised by national security operatives in the North West State are hovering overhead as the authorities intensify efforts to smash insurgency groups.
But he expressed fears about the safety of residents whose homes may lie along the path of the drones that are being deployed.
Expressing his view on “X”, the Senator known for his strong views however raised questions about the operational conditions of such unmanned vehicles.
Drones are becoming popular globally in crisis-ridden zones where they are being used to confront the “enemy”, more especially in the Ukrainian war and the Middle East.
Under the Tinubu administration which is fighting terrorism and insurgency, there is evidence that Nigeria is relying increasingly on technology as well as unmanned aerial vehicles.
These “toys” of war are helping to reduce the physical involvement of soldiers in the battlefield while striking at the same time at strongholds held by insurgents.
Sani who took to his official handle on “X” hoped that agents of state who are guiding these vehicles to targets in Kaduna’s most troubled zone would do what they can to avoid mishaps in highly populated civilian areas
“The security agencies using Drones in Kaduna should please make sure they are in good condition before flying over our homes. I take God beg una” Shehu Sani pleaded.
Recall that a drone flown by the Nigerian Army allegedly killed a number of innocent and defenseless citizens several months ago in Northern Nigeria.
While people in the affected community argued that those who were killed were not dissidents and insurgents, the Nigerian military affirmed it had gathered aerial evidence suggesting that wanted bandits were identified on ground before the strike.
