PDP Govs Fail To Expel Wike, Set Up Zoning Committee
• Raise alarm over worsening security threats in the country

One of the strongest power blocs within the Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP Governors Forum, has failed to throw the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike out of the party.
Expectations among Nigerians that Wike could be asked to leave the Democratic Party as its Governors came together to review events in Ibadan, Oyo State, were dashed.
Somehow, the former Governor of Rivers State, believed to be a cat with nine lives, whose actions are allegedly undermining the PDP did not get even a mention in the communique which eventually emerged at the end of the meeting.
Whereas Sam Anyanwu, National Secretary of the PDP who had fought several battles to hang unto office got the boot, the communique released by the governors perhaps, for reasons which are yet to be explained, left Wike off the hook.
Although the National Working Committee of the party, NWC, is yet to meet despite repeated attempts, the Governors expressed confidence it may hold in May, this year.
Part of the communique read, “The Forum resolves that working in conjunction with the National Working Committee (NWC) and other relevant organs of the party, to hold a NEC Meeting on the 27th of May, 2025; constitute a Zoning Committee that will address all issues relating to zoning of party offices and hold an early convention in August 2025, precisely on the 28th, 29th and 30th in the ancient city of Kano.”
Accordingly, the PDP Governors Forum recommended the establishment of two committees which would ratified by the NWC and NEC.
They are the Zoning and National Convention Committees. The Zoning Committee has Governor Douye Diri as its Chairman, Governor Dauda Lawal as Vice while Governor Caleb Mutfwang is Secretary.
The National Convention Committee has Governor Ahmadu Fintiri as Chairman, Governor Ademola Adeleke as Vice Chairman and Governor Peter Mbah as Secretary.
The Governors raised alarm over the escalation of acts of terrorism and insecurity across the country.
“The Forum finds alarming the worsening security situation in the country, as evidenced in parts of the country especially Borno, Plateau, Katsina and Edo States.
“The Forum calls for review and reordering of priorities and strategies including adopting a bottom up template that guarantees the sub-nationals to constitute an effective line of defence against security breaches.
“While raising the concerns above, we condemn the recent attacks in Plateau State, and commiserate with the government and people of the state especially those who lost their lives and properties during this unfortunate mishap”, the communique added.
