Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, former Emir of Kano speaks  against political high handedness, urges Nigerians to refuse intimidation.

Head of the Islamic sect, Tijaniyya, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi says Nigerians must rise up in their numbers against their tormentators-in-chief and resist attempts to break their resolve as human beings.

The former Emir of Kano who recently visited Niger Republic where he met with key leaders of the military junta said in a statement that citizens should not in any way allow themselves to be intimidated by their rulers.

According to him, unless Nigerians stand up to their leaders and reject moves to treat them as  sub humans subjugated and conquered people recklessly intimidated by the audacious misuse of power, they will have no nation to call their own.

Sanusi, said it was wrong for Nigerians to be seen by men in power as subordinated beings because they opted to ignore politics.

“We have chosen different parts”, Sanusi explained, insisting that those who govern are no better simply because they parade along the corridors of power.

“If I had gone into politics, at least given the people that have access to be president in Nigeria, I could have become president or I could be governor”, Sanusi said.

Recall that after serving in the banking industry for several years and rising to the position of CBN Governor, Sanusi ascended to the throne as Emir of Kano.

But he was booted out of office and taken away from the Emirate by the Ganduje government, following disagreements which ensued.

The Ganduje administration which explained its decision at the time said the removal was reached in order to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition, religion and prestige of the Kano Emirate built over a thousand years.

Incidentally, Sanusi would not be the first from his lineage to be removed from office by the instrumentality of government.

In April 1963, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi of Kano flouted the First Law of Power and was deposed by the Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of the Northern Region, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
