Developing Story: Fubara Turns To God, Thanks Him, Rivers People

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has thanked God for the victory that he recorded on Monday over the gubernatorial candidates of four major political parties at the Election Petitions Tribunal.
They are Pastor Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress, APC,Mrs Beatrice Itubo of the Labour Party, LP, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs of the Accord Party, AP and the candidate of the APM.
Fubara who received news of the tribunal decision in Abuja while in Port Harcourt headed for the Government House Chapel to thank the Lord.

Speaking after the prayer session, the governor described the tribunal judgment as evidence of God’s grace and thanked Rivers people for their unflinching support.
“The tribunal ruling yesterday affirmed God’s grace upon us and the faith of Rivers people in us through their mandate.”
“It was on this foundation”, Fubara emphasized, “that we have returned to God to give Him glory for what He has done for us.
“We also appreciate our people for their unflinching support and we assure of our commitment to deliver the dividends of democracy to them.”

He added, “The affirmation of our victory at the tribunal is the beginning of the confirmation of the trust that Rivers people showed at the polls and we will not take it for granted.”
Recall that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike was among Rivers leaders who were present when judgment was delivered in Abuja.
Reacting, Wike hailed the decision of the panel of judges, wondering why a candidate whose political party withdrew participation went ahead with the case.
Meanwhile, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reiterated his resolve to work closely with the mass media.
The Governor who spoke when a delegation of the Port Harcourt Press visited him at Government House on Monday expressed optimism that the relationship between his administration and the press would be strengthened.
He acknowledged the important role of the Press in society and thanked Publishers of the Port Harcourt Press for coming over to congratulate him on his victory at the tribunal.

Fubara then urged chief executives of the Port Harcourt Press to remain focused on the execution of their historic tasks in terms of educating, informing and enlightening the masses, and further promised to ensure closer ties between the media and his government.
Earlier, the leader of the Port Harcourt Press and one-time member of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon Ogbonna Nwuke, DSSRS, congratulated Governor Siminalayi Fubara on his resounding victory at the tribunal.

Nwuke said Fubara won the elections held in the State “fairly and squarely”, saying the dismissal of the petitions by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal is glaring proof of the fact that he beat all comers in the race to emerge as the governor.
He urged cooperation between the Governor and the press and added that members of the Port Harcourt Press were happy with steps so far taken by the Fubara government to improve the lot of the people.
