Why More Nigerians Are Dying Prematurely

Discussants on an Arise TV programme, “Perspective” have blamed the increase in the number of deaths being recorded in Nigeria on stress.
Presenting their perspectives on the chat programme, the discussants said stress which is resulting in premature death is overtly linked to growing social pressures oftentimes tied to peer group influences, a make-it-quick desire and the urge by individuals to emulate the lives of others.
The discussants, Zeal Akaraiwe and Uzor Nwani said on Sunday that quite a lot of Nigerians, are living far above their means.
According to them, people are dying as a result of heart attacks that are associated with peer pressure driven stress.

Uzor said a lot of people who lack confidence in themselves go ahead to emulate the lifestyle of others due largely because they suffer from what they referred to as a low self worth syndrome.

Akaraiwe further disclosed that cultural and religious pressures are fast helping to enhance the pace of corruption in society, saying that the kind of pressure that is brought to bear for instance, on public office holders by the people force such functionaries to live far above their means.
The discussants urged Nigerians, especially youths to eschew the temptation to live fake lifestyles, noting that many who are engaged in ritual murders and other antethical human practices sacrifice are driven by an innate desire to make money by any means possible.
They said people must learn to believe in themselves and live within their means and shun the tendency to ignore reality in preference for a life of fantasy.
