A former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan has asked all political actors in Rivers State to sheath their swords.
To this end, he asked both the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike and the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara to immediately ceasefire and embrace one another in the interest of the Rivers people and the nation.

Jonathan who flagged-off the construction of the second phase of the Trans Kalabari Highway on Monday noted that the Rivers State occupies a very strategic and prominent place in the way Nigeria works.
As a result, Nigerians he said cannot afford to allow the Rivers State to slip into crisis due to political differences among major actors
The former President described the oil rich State as the nerve centre of the Niger Delta region, saying that if the Rivers State is destabilized, the rest of the Niger Delta is in trouble.
He said it was unnecessary for outgone State governors and their successors to work at cross purpose, noting that clashes between former and serving governors have become dangerous to political transition process.
Jonathan said the intervention of elders of the State and other Nigerians who are busy asking the political gladiators in Rivers to adopt a give and take posture in the interest of the Rivers people is a welcome development.

He lauded Governor Fubara for the peaceful atmosphere that he is encouraging in his State and said the decision by the number one citizen of Rivers State to embark on the construction of the Trans Kalabari Highway is impressive.
Earlier, Fubara who now stands on the threshold of history said the Trans Kalabari Road would help to enhance the growth and even development of the State.
He assured that his government would fulfil its promises to the people and pledged that the Trans Kalabari Road wouls be completed on schedule.
