In the midst of anxiety generated by months of incessant fights culminating in the trial of matters associated with the Rivers political crisis at the Supreme Court, the Rivers State Government has turned attention swiftly to governance issues, releasing a list of appointments.
Government statements issued in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, said Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved the appointment of members of some state commissions and agencies.
These agencies and commissions include Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission, the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission and the Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA.

Already, some of the appoin-tees nomina-ted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara have appeared for screening at the Rivers State Housing of Assembly.
In the meantime, Surveyor Peter Ogolo has been named the Surveyor General of River State and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands.
His appointment contained in a statement released by George Nwaeke, the Head of Service, was approved by Governor Fubara.
These developments which have renewed hope among supporters of the governor are changing the narrative in the oil rich state, particularly as political actors and professionals from the 23 local government areas look forward to the release of more appointments and opportunities.
Fubara had earlier pledged that his administration would begin in February to fill existing vacancies and create real opportunities for Rivers people.
The Telegraph understands through well placed sources that Governor Fubara is intensely focused on fulfilling promises he made to numerous supporters while campaigning for office.
A top political player who did not want his name in print told this publication, “It is really heart warming that Fubara remembers pledges that he has made. At various fora, he has said February and March will mark turning points for all who have believed in his administration.
“He has truly swung into action and I think this is a good sign and evidence of his resolve to run an all inclusive government.”
We have gathered that the Governor may release more lists of appointees who will help to drive the administration’s policy direction.
