Raid on Jonathan’s country home: BSG yet to react

There has been no reaction from the Bayelsa State Government,  following reports that gunmen early Tuesday morning moved to seize control of the Otuoke   residence of the former Nigerian President,  Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
Otuoke which is the village  of the former number one citizen is part of Ogbia Local Government Area.
According to reports, the gunmen who struck early Tuesday engaged soldiers in a gun duel which lasted for a while.
We have learnt that  at least one soldier was killed while three hoodlum lost their lives in the encounter.
A source close to Creek Haven said  news of the attack on the former President came as a huge shock.
“Why would anybody, especially of Bayelsa or Ijaw origin want to kill a man like Goodluck Jonathan? We are shocked that such a thing happened.
“Government would react in due course. At this time, it is important to note that we are still trying to make sense of this ugly situation”, the source added.
Many in Bayelsa are still in a state of surprise, given the decision of a few misguided persons to launch a violent attack a day to Christmas day.
Jonathan had congratulated David Lyon of the APC, saying after that election he is fthe ather of the State.
It is not clear whether there is any ,relationship between the attack and what is perceived  as Jonathan’s alleged betrayal of the PDP.
For now, both the government and the victim of an attack that claimed some lives are yet to react.
In Otuoke life is said to have returned to normal, but those who share ties with those who are fallen in battle are mourning the departure of their loved ones.
In a related development,  gunmen suspected to be kidnap kingpins have snatched a little boy believed to be the son of a member of the Bayelsa State Executive Council.
The incident occurred many hours before some gunmen headed for the country home of the former President. Many people say the boy who was taken hostage is about six years old. They say he is the son of the State Commissioner of Water Resources.
His captors are yet to release him despite repeated appeals urging them to spare the innocent child.
