The Rivers State Independent Publishers Association, RIVPA says the elevation of Paulinus Nsirim to the position of Commissioner for Information and Communications is a plus for the Wike administration and the journalism profession.
RIVPA said in a statement signed by its Chairman, Jerry Needam and its Secretary, Solomon Parakom that Nsirim, a former Chairman of the NUJ and former Press Secretary deserved his appointment as the State Commissioner for Information.
RIVPA said it has no doubt whatsoever that the Governor’s decision to pick Nsirim as the Government’s mouthpiece has proved he appreciates the enormous contributions that the media is making towards the promotion and sustainability of democracy.
“Pastor Nsirim has proven himself as a prominent member and trail blazer in the journalism profession having served as Chief Press Secretary to the Rivers State Government at different times with remarkable records.”
“We also give kudos to His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for his magnanimity and hindsight”, the statement said in selecting “one of the best brains and a core professional journalist to man the Information machinery of Rivers State government.”
RIVPA’s Leadership assured it would support the new Information Commissioner in order to guarantee better understanding and cooperation. between the Rivers people and their government.
