Despite what looks like a spirited effort by a faction of the APC to discredit the government in Edo State, a former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan has acknowledged the good work of the Godwin Obaseki led administration.
The former President who was in Edo on a private visit said he was in constant touch with indigenes of the State.
He said most persons were increasingly impressed with the developmental strides that are being recorded under Governor Obaseki’s watch.
Jonathan’s comments underscore the level of interest that the ongoing dog-fight between factions of the APC is generating.
Incidentally, the factions at war are led by two prominent sons of Edo State. One had served as governor while the other is currently serving.
Dr Jonathan who was in Government House, Benin, said he had informed the State Governor of his visit before arriving the State.
He expressed delight that the Governor was living up to the expectations of the people who elected him into office.
Reacting to the comments made by Dr Jonathan who paid him a courtesy visit, Governor Obaseki said the decision of the former President to inform the Edo State Government of his impending visit to the State was laudable.
The Edo State Governor indirectly took pot shots at the former Governor, Adams Oshiomhole whom he accused of acting in breach of established protocol.
Oshiomhole is the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Many observers are wondering how the APC would enjoy stability when the one who ought to be the arrowhead of possible peace overtures within the party his himself embroiled in conflict at home.
Although Obaseki did not refer to the National Chairman by name, the Governor said there were persons, including formers governors, who were acting in breach of the protocol relating to such matters.
Obaseki said governors where chief security officers charged with a responsibility of protecting the lives of the people of the State as well as visiting dignitaries.
He thanked the former President for his visit and wished him well.
Of late, there have been increasing calls within the APC for Oshiomhole to step aside from the position of National Chairman.
About a week ago, youths within the APC took their protest to the National Secretariat of the party where they asked Oshiomhole to resign.
They carried placards which revealed the APC is losing grounds as a result of his style of leadership which is allegedly breeding internal crisis.
