Princewill Osareojiji, the youth leader of Eleme Local Government chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that there are attempts to frame him.
The youth leader who spoke from his hideout claimed a commissioner and some others at large had presented a concocted picture of what had happened to Governor Nyesom Wike in order to incriminate and land him in trouble.
Osareojiji who has not been seen despite been declared wanted has a N5m bounty placed on his head by the Rivers State Government.
It would be the second time that Government would declare him wanted. The first time he was declared wanted was in 2017.
The youth leader said the account that he beat up supposed members of the COVID 19 Taskforce was totally false, insisting that a serving Commissioner in Governor Nyesom Wike’s cabinet had manipulated the facts to suit his purpose.
There are people in Eleme who allege that the desire to create access to a property close to the hotel site may have purportedly motivated the plan to finger the hotel.
They allege that the prime property which is reportedly owned by the said commissioner has no proper access.
Osareojiji, who spoke for the first time with a Port Harcourt based radio station gave his own side of the story.
“That day, l was called by the Manager of Prodest Hotel complaining that there were some men that came there demanding for money because the hotel had been shut down for long. When I got there they were people I nominated into the COVID-19 Taskforce.
“They were just four persons. How can I beat up people I nominated?
“I told them that asking for bribes from a hotel that was not in operation was wrong and was not the mandate of the Governor.
“I asked, if the hotel was in operation, and even if it was, do they need to extort money from the hotel management?
“Some political leaders want to fight me, that was why they misinformed the Governor about me and the Governor believed them without hearing me.
“I want the Governor to call all the chiefs, elders of PDP in Eleme to know the truth, I was set up and framed up.”
Osareojiji alleged that the photos of those who claimed to be injured and lying critically ill in the hospital after a fight with him were stage managed.
“Nobody beat anybody. Those photos with people on bandages in hospital are all lies. When Governor brought the Eleme Local government share of food as palliatives on Sunday, all those people feigning ill in the hospital were all sharing food and every Ward went with their own. Some of them were seen sharing food on Monday.
“How can you, after sharing food on Monday, morning and later in the evening you go and lie down on the hospital bed with your body bandaged?
“If they were beaten up and hospitalized, could they be seen sharing food on Monday and everybody saw them?”
Osareojiji said he would want Governor Wike to hear his own side of what transpired, stressing that he was not a cultist as the world has been led to believe.
“I am neither a cultist or a kidnapper as alleged. I fight cultism and kidnapping in Eleme. I am married for the past 17 years and have never been in handcuffs or arrested for any crimes.
“Those who want me out of the way decided to frame me by passing misinformation to the Governor.”
“I want to meet with Governor to clear my name. He should give me fair hearing”, the youth leader pleaded.
The ownership of Prodest Hotel has been an issue, with the State Government alleging that the hotel is owned Osareojiji.
The Youth Leader denied owning the hotel, saying, “The owner of the Prodest hotel lives in Lagos. I saw him last five years ago. If I see him now, I may not recognize him. All these are framed stories concocted to destroy me”.
Recall that, the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has expelled the Youth Leader for Eleme Local Government Area, Mr. Princewill Osareojiji of Eleme Alode Ward 2.
A statement from the office of the outgoing State Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah, said Osareojiji was expelled for insubordination, flagrant rascality, disobedience to the directives of the State government on COVID-19 and acts of criminality.
The statement personally signed by Obuah, frowned at the nonchalant and criminal action of the PDP Eleme youth leader against the task force sent to the area to monitor compliance with the executive order on closure of hotels, clubs, public gatherings, as part of the measures to curtail the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in the State.
In Eleme, the issue of the alleged face-off between the youth leader and members of the taskforce has remained topical.
There are allegations that the taskforce allegedly demanded N100,000 gratification from the management of the demolished hotel.
Sources in Alode and elsewhere in Eleme say what the government has presented as facts against the youth leader may be largely incorrect.
They say the only point raised by the government which is factual is the account that one of the youth leader’s legs is amputated.
In the meantime, Osareojiji remains in hiding while waiting for the opportunity to tell Governor Wike his own side of the story. Will Wike agree?
