Tension is mounting between the people of Elekahia community and Hausas who are resident in their midst.

According to what we have heard, trouble started after an Hausa man who was reportedly apprehended by members of the Vigilante for allegedly stealing purportedly died.

Our sources within the community say northern elements who are infuriated by the death of one of them have taken up position around Boms Street.

At least three persons including a woman have been allegedly stabbed around that axis.

Our sources say the injuries sustained by the victims of the knife attacks do not appear to be life threatening.

We cannot confirm if the police have been deployed to the area to keep the peace, but we have learnt that the community Towncrier went round Sunday night, urging the people to be on the alert.

The Telegraph placed three calls Sunday night to the phone of the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni in a bid to confirm the breaking story.

There was however no response.

A resident in the Elekahia area who called this medium said, “We don’t know what will happen. We are all living in fear.”
