The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has expressed its condolence to the family of  the late Oba of Ogbaland, describing him as a straight forward Monarch whose actions conferred respect on the revered traditional institution of his people.

The party said in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by its Spokesman, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke that it was shocked by the news of the demise of the Eze Oba of Ogbaland, His Royal Majesty Chukwumela Nnam Obi the Second.

According to the APC, “The news of the death of the Oba of Ogbaland, widely respected by many Nigerians across the country, has come to us as  a huge shock.

“We recall that the late Oba spoke truth to power, raised the moral consciousness of the Rivers people, and brought respect and dignity to the Rivers State Traditional and Chieftaincy Institution, particularly during years of military rule.”

“It was as a result of his fearlessness and transparency”, the APC noted “that the Oba served for many years as a Patron of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.”

“As a Monarch, the Late Oba responsibly rallied together the Ogba people. And laboured tirelessly to safeguard the age-long customs and traditions of the Ogba Kingdom.

“The Rivers State has indeed lost a great patriot, Royal Father and statesman who believed, not only in the oneness of the Rivers people, but in the unity of the Nigerian nation.

“While we take solace in the numerous roles that Oba Chukumela Nnam Obi played to promote growth and progress throughout his Kingdom, we mourn with members of  the Royal Family and the good people of Ogbaland that he left behind”, the APC stated.

In his tribute, the Sole Administrator of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA), Felix Obuah observed that the late monarch was one of the longest serving Kings in the country who offered exemplary, progressive and dynamic leadership.

A statement issued by Obuah’s Media Aide, Jerry Needam stated that “the reign of the late monarch was replete with positive transformational changes, characterized by peace, unity, progress and stability in his kingdom.”

Stressing that Oba Chukumela Nnam Obi II would be sourly missed, Obuah acknowledged  that the wisdom and unparalleled sense of humour displayed by the Monarch during his lifetime was indeed legendary.

“As the custodian of the Ogba culture and the symbol of traditional authority, the Oba fully realized that leadership is a trust that must not be betrayed.  Hence, he was never an arm-chair traditional ruler, waiting for his people to pay him homage on a daily basis”, Obuah remarked.

The immediate past Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state noted that from the inception of Oba’s ascension to the throne of Oba of Ogbaland on the 19th of December, 1970, he initiated brilliant innovations aimed at improving the living standard of the Ogba people.

Extolling the qualities of late King Nnam Obi II who marked a historic 80th birthday celebration and 50 years on the throne on Friday, November 20, 2020 in Omoku, Obuah charged the immediate family of the Oba and the Ogba people to uphold their faith as Christians in mourning their departed Monarch.

The RIWAMA Sole Administrator also urged them to take solace in the fact that the late Oba Chukumela Nnam Obi II, a renowned Philosopher and meta-physician who held several leadership positions during his life time, lived a life worthy of emulation and left legacies, not only for his children, but for others yet unborn.
