The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority,  Hadiza Bala Usman has been directed to step aside, pending the outcome of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry.

President Muhammadu Buhari gave the order, following a decision to investigate the operations of the NPA  under her watch.

In the absence of the Managing Director of the Authority, Mohammed Koko, a former banker and the current Executive Director, Finance, would act.

According to a statement issued by Garba Shehu, media aide to the President, the probe is at the instance of the Ministry of Transportation piloted by Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.

The Director, Maritime Services of the Ministry of Transportation is to head the panel.

The Deputy Director, Legal in the same ministry would serve as the Secretary of the investigative team.

Although the Presidency gave no reason for the probe, emerging evidence suggest that there have been some  complaints, particularly about the style of management’s top brass.

The statement did not say how long the exercise would last,  but it disclosed that the Minister of Transportation would nominate the remaining members of the Administrative Panel.
