Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru who recently took over from General Burutai is no more.

He died hours ago after an airforce jet in which he and other high ranking military officers were traveling crashed.

The identities of the other military Chiefs who were on the trip with him are not yet known.

But there are speculations that at least six others, excluding the Chief of Army Staff may have died in the air crash.

It is also not clear what caused the air mishap, which occurred around Kaduna.

“An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport.”, the Nigerian Air Force said in a statement.

“The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon,” Edward Gabkwet, the force’s Director of Public Relations and Information noted.

Accidents involving crafts belonging to the Air Force have become more frequent of late.

Given what has happened, General Attahiru has become one of the shortest serving Chiefs of Army Staff.
