A former Governor of Abia State and a current Senator, Senator Theodore Orji may have volunteered the reason why Governor Nyesom Wike is busy rubbishing his predecessor in office.

His predecessor in office, going by what looks like an advice that Wike got today, was unable to procure a successor who would protect the indelible achievements he made while in office.

Orji who was in Rivers State to Flag off the construction of a road project which would link Woji in the State capital with the Okirika and Ogoni speaking areas observed that in order to preserve his legacy, Wike would need to enthrone a successor.

Orji said he had learnt through his late father that a man who records great successes without a successor is doomed.

According to Orji, his father told him before he died that it is a waste of time not to have a replacement after serving meritoriously.

He further warned that a successor who has no fate in the one that has gone before him would do everything to rubbish his attainments.

It is not clear if Orji who spoke strongly about the need for Wike to hand pick a dependable ally as a successor when he is leaving office was indirectly reminding his host of what is already transpiring in Rivers State.

Wike has spent most of his tenure in office trying to diminish the accomplishments of the Rotimi Amaechi led administration.

Since embarking on the commissioning of projects, some of which was started by Amaechi, Wike has taken to live television to drag Amaechi’s image to the mud and attack other opposition leaders in the State who are standing with his predecessor.

Obviously fore warning him of what may happen to him when he leaves power, Orji relied on a famous Igbo way of telling a story and driving a message home.

The in-law of the Rivers people urged Wike to immediately consider his proposition to impose a loyal successor in office, and astutely commended him for embarking on several projects across the State.

He said that in his quiet moments, he had asked himself what manner of man Wike is.

But he was quick to say he has come to see him as a performer and fearless person.

What manner of man is Wike? That question would continue to play back in the minds of those who are hooked unto Television daily to listen to what looks like the political equivalent of the sermon on the mount.
