The Rivers State Police Command has appointed a new Divisional Police Officer to take care of that division in the Emohua Local Government Area where arson and murder have been reported.

The decision to replace the old DPO is coming in the wake of the Omudioga crisis, according to information reaching our news desk.

We cannot however confirm at this time if the action by the police authorities was merely administrative or punitive.

But the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni CSP, confirmed the development in a telephone chat with the Port Harcourt Telegraph when it called for an update on the situation at Umudioga

He hinted that his office was yet to receive any brief through appropriate police channels on ground, thus suggesting that the removal of the former DPO in the midst of the crisis may be responsible.

In line with tradition, the office of the PPRO responds to issues sought by the press which are of public interest on the basis of situational reports filed by DPOs or other heads of Police formations who may be privy to such information.

CSP Omoni promised to get back as soon as he obtains details on the incident which has led to death of one man and the destruction of property.

The Telegraph Saturday, put across two calls to the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr Chidi Lloyd to seek his reaction on the incident, but the calls went unanswered.

The charred remains of a body believed to be that of the late Chief has been found in his residence which was razed to the ground.

So far, the whereabouts of his wife who was around at the time of the attack is not yet known.

A middle aged lady whose identity is being withheld explained that the attack on her parents was masterminded by members of a disbanded vigilante group in the area.

She swore that her father shared no ties in his life time with cultists when she spoke to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

According to her, she and her siblings have run away out of fear for their lives.

In the meantime, The PUNCH reports that the lady is demanding justice for her father, Solomon Nwagbara.

She also claimed that those who perpetrated the act kidnapped her mother, Priscilia.

The lady appealed to the State government and security agencies for help in locating her mother.

“When we got there, we saw the burnt remains of my dad there. The whole house was razed; my mother was nowhere to be found.

“So, we have put him (late father) in a morgue; we are now looking for my mum. Let the police please help us comb the bushes and find my mother”, the Punch reported.

Until tragedy struck, the deceased who was suffering from stroke was a chief in the community.

His wife whose whereabouts is not known was an accomplished woman leader.

It is apparent that those who carried out the attack would be on the run. Many in the area hope that the police which replaced its Divisional Police Officer in the area are on the trail of Nwagbara’s killers.
