The atmosphere was warm and convivial. Earlier in the day, the Governor had given his friends and supporters in the PDP a birthday gift.

He said they were free to go about the pursuit of their political interests without let or hindrance.

The implication is that the hunt for a successor to the Governor of Rivers State has just begun.

But the bid for office would intensify in the new year when aspirants interested in the governorship race would step into the roped square.

There have been speculations before now about the intentions of some political associates of the governor.

Now that the road is open, the real aspirants would begin to reach out to party loyalists who pack a lot of influence in their part of the State.

Governor Wike is promising to be neutral. He is equally praying the Rivers people will get a successor who loves them.

Somehow, many here worry about the protection of the legacy of the Governor. They say there would be a need to get someone who would guard the Wike legacy.

What matters for now is the fact that groups would begin to emerge within the PDP as people shop for candidates to support.
