As more Nigerians celebrate the return of Twitter, two political heavyweights have joined to extol the social media and it’s contributions to the advancement of the nation.

They are Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State and a presidential hopeful on the platform of the APC and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President and immediate past flag bearer of the PDP.

Both men who took to their Twitter handles to express their views described the social media as an effective tool for socio-economic transformation.

Tinubu noted, “Social media – indeed all media – including Twitter, are a means for us to all communicate, report, share and engage with stories and each other; to enable economic and social empowerment for Nigerians. But they can be and sometimes are misused.

“I commend the Federal Government for recognising these aspects and most importantly, concluding negotiations for the safe return of access to Twitter to the millions of Nigerians who use it daily.”

In his reaction, Atiku who has been offered the chairmanship of the PDP’s Board of Trustees by negotiators within the party observed, “The effects of the #TwitterBan,, particularly on small businesses, was evident for all to see

“I am glad that the ban has finally been lifted, and our young people who are already dealing with the challenging business environment can have a breath of fresh air to thrive.”
