… Pundits suspect Wike, Mohammed may team up for presidential race
“There is nothing he will give me that I don’t have”, Bala Mohammed, a presidential aspirant and Governor of Bauchi State has said.
Bala, whose two-day official visit to Port Harcourt is fueling political speculation in parts of the country made the remark while speaking at a flag off ceremony on Monday.
The Wike administration which is seemingly breaking a record in the delivery of infrastructure invited the Governor to flag off the construction of the 10th flyover within the Elimgbu/Rumukroshe axis.
Monday, the visiting Governor whom political observers suspect would likely pair with his Rivers counterpart in the race for the presidency said Wike has beaten Abuja, Kano and Lagos in the provision of infrastructure, particularly bridges.
Wike who is increasingly being urged to join the presidential race because of the zeal he has demonstrated in repositioning Rivers State had earlier visited Bauchi where he said Bala could be trusted to take Nigeria to greater heights.
He said yesterday that he would not approach any governor who has not performed in office to commission or flag off any of his projects.
Wike attested that he has had the unique opportunity of participating in commissioning of projects in Bauchi.
Although the Bauchi State Governor did not give out much, his remark that he is seeking the presidential ticket of the PDP, coupled with what he said about Wike emerging as ‘the new face of democracy’ has given political pundits across the nation something to chew on.
Observers are saying that there are strong indications, a sizzling political romance exists between the two men.
Recall that Wike had come under fire, especially from the South East, for expressing support for the presidential bid of the Bauchi Governor.
An analyst in Port Harcourt, name withheld, said in a chat with the Port Harcourt Telegraph, “Both men would make an interesting pair if they come together. Nigerians are looking for performers.
“Wike has proved he has what it takes to gun for higher office. He has truly out-performed his colleagues in the delivery of infrastructure. Mohammed has modestly done well too.”
Speaking at the flag off of the Elimgbu – Rumukrushe flyover, the Governor observed that he did not come to Port Harcourt to praise Wike.
But he admitted that the Rivers State is benefitting from the hard work that has been brought to the table by PDP Governors.
Nigerians are waiting to see what Governor Mohammed and Governor Wike would do together.
The Bauchi State Governor will be returning Tuesday to his State after taking part in the commissioning of another flyover completed by Julius Berger Nigeria Limited.
Flyovers already commissioned by the Rivers State Government include the Okoro ‘Na Odu Flyover, Rumuogba Flyover, Rumuola Flyover, GRA Flyover and Rebisi Flyover.
