Lagos records early morning explosion

Sprawling Lagos… watered by the Lagoon.

An explosion has occured in Ajegunle, a highly populated part of Nigeria’s economic capital, Lagos.

The incident, according to what we are hearing, occurred in the early hours of Friday.

Details about the incident are still sketchy at the moment.

Burning petrol tanker.

A tanker conveying an unspecified amount of petroleum products meant for distribution exploded around Ajegunle Bus Stop.

It is not yet clear if the driver of the vehicle was able to make it to safety before the explosion occurred.

We are also unable at this time to confirm  if other persons were killed or injured as a result of the blast which occurred between 3.00am and 4.00am.

But the Telegraph has learnt that some shops and residential homes were gutted by fire around Alagbado, on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Emergency responders, particularly fire fighters from the Lagos State Fire Service, were seen battling the raging flames shortly after the incident happened.

As at the time of this report, officials of the Lagos State Government were yet to react.

Incidents involving petrol tankers are becoming increasingly commonplace across the country.
