We must not be sentimental – PDP Presidential Aspirant
Governor Nyesom Wike has urged members of the PDP not to be sentimental about winning the 2023 elections.
Wike who was in Kaduna in continuation of his meet – the – delegates tour said at the PDP Party Secretariat that the task before any reasonable government would be to tackle security challenges.
Kaduna State under the watch of Governor Nasir El-Rufai has become a hotbed of political instability and violence.
Wike remarked that is major concern within the first six months in office, if given the mandate, would be how to restore national stability by effectively tackling security threats.
“My major concern within my first six months in office”, the Rivers Governor stressed, would be “to restore our states, how to restore our country.”
He noted that there would be no need “if you can not do that” to say “you want to govern any state or head any country,”
“We must not be sentimental about winning 2023 election”, Wike said of the task ahead, “We need people who are courageous and competent to win the election come 2023 and this we will do when you give us the mandate.”
Intelligence gathering, Wike observed is central to ending national insecurity and instability.
“One of the major problems we have as a nation is that we don’t spend much money on intelligence gathering.
“Unfortunately, we spend more money on buying weapons than on gathering intelligence,” Wike insisted.
The presidential aspirant urged party members to eschew undue bias, given efforts in some quarters to adopt consensus candidates, saying uniting to support a single candidate ahead of 2023 election may prove to be counter-productive.
Wike donated the sum of N200 million to the welfare of internally displaced persons in Kaduna State.
Most IDPs, reports say, are from Southern Kaduna, an area which has a predominant Christian population.
Sen. Ahmad Makarfi, former Kaduna State governor lauded Wike for his courage describing him as a party faithful who stood for the interest of the masses.
Makarfi also applauded Wike’s donation to the IDPs describing it as heartwarming.
Felix Hyet, the State PDP Chairman said the party was poised to field candidates who were the people’s choice and would represent the voices of the common man.
Comparatively, Wike has toured more states in the country than any aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party seeking to be elected president.
His campaign team has been to the North East, North Central, South East, South West, North West and the South South.
Wike who is seeking the mandate of PDP delegates is campaigning as a Nigerian and not as a sectional leader.
He said recently to delegates in Maiduguri, “I come to you as a Nigerian and not as a Southerner.”
In Jalingo, Wike was warmly received by Governor Darius Ishaku.
Ishaku later took to his official Twitter account to acknowledge the visit of the presidential aspirant.
Governor Darius Ishaku, Governor Nyesom Wike exchange views with a PDP stalwart.
Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Darius Ishaku share a rear moment of laughter.
“I received in Jalingo, my friend and brother Governor @GovWike with his team, on his tour for his presidential bid consultations.”
Last week, Wike who was in Awka in the South East visited the Obi of Onitsha.
