Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and an acclaimed consensus aspirant from the North on the platform of the PDP may withdraw from the presidential race.

The alleged plan to withdraw is coming on the heels of a revelation that the Governor may have secretly made up his mind to do a second tenure instead of chasing an elusive presidential ambition.

According to Premium Times, the Bauchi State Governor has been secretly screened as a governorship aspirant.

If the report which has just been published is true, Mohammed will be contesting a second time as Governor.

Quoting unnamed sources, Premium Times reports that the collection of “the gubernatorial form by Mr Mohammed is beyond rumours.”

It further quotes those sources as saying that “he (Mohammed) would most likely withdraw from the presidential race before long.”

Governor Nyesom Wike had earlier remarked that some of those aspiring to be president were not as serious as himself.

He had alleged on that occasion that some presidential aspirants in PDP have already picked forms to contest for other positions.

It is not clear if Wike was referring to Bala at the time, but the Bauchi State Governor has been quoted as saying publicly that he would not contest against Nigeria’s former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan whose decision to enter the presidential race is being awaited.

The Governor described Jonathan as his boss, saying it would be a mark of disrespect to contemplate doing so.

With the conclusion of the screening of PDP’s presidential aspirants by the Senator David Mark led Committee, it is now obvious that Jonathan, if he declares for the presidency, will be headed in the direction of the APC .

Recall that Mohammed who has emerged as one of the two possible consensus presidential aspirants of the North successfully went through screening as a contender for the presidency.

“I don’t comment on mere rumours. What I know is that he had been screened to contest for the presidency and has joined a long list of other candidates”, Premium Times quoted Udenta Udenta, Presidential Spokesman for Bala Mohammed campaign outfit as saying.
