Amaechi inches forward, joins the league of aspirants who have bought nomination forms
The former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi may have publicly declared his interest to vie for the presidency during a Thanksgiving ceremony in Port Harcourt on April 9, 2022.
But Amaechi’s ambition to join the ranks of those rearing to replace Buhari as the next president gained traction Thursday.
The presidential aspirant formally obtained the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
Amaechi displays his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms in the company of his friends.
Newspaper reports reveal that some of his friends got together to pick the highly prized APC nomination form valued at N100 million.
Since declaring for the race, Amaechi has raked in millions in donations from friends and business associates.
The plan, according to an insider, is to acquire a huge war chest that might prove useful in the battle ahead, despite the avowed hatred that Amaechi claims he has for money.
On the whole, there are 12 presidential aspirants in the ruling party who are vying to be the next Commander-in-Chief.
They include the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio; and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Also in the race are Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi; former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha; former Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu; former Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
The party’s National Leader, Bola Tinubu, Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo; and Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi are equally among those with tall ambitions to govern Nigeria.
Recall that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the first to declare his intention to run for the presidency.
The records show that Amaechi who hails from the South South but has managed to garner considerable support in the South East was the sixth aspirant to throw his hat into the ring.
