President Muhammadu Buhari has promised the nation that the 2023 General Elections would be free, fair and transparent.

The President in an early morning broadcast to mark Democracy Day urged Nigerians never forget the sacrifices of their heroes.

Buhari acknowledged this would be his last Democracy Day address, but he said his administration would not leave any stone unturned in its effort to guarantee  free and fair elections and the sustenance of democracy.

He vowed that his administration will secure the release of victims of kidnapping before the terminal date of his government and ensure that the perpetrators of such henious crimes are brought to book.

Buhari said he has been greatly distressed by the abduction of Nigerians, saying efforts would be intensified to bring those being held home and take care of the trauma faced by their families.

He observed that the events leading to the annulment of the June 12 elections that Chief M.K.O Abiola won represented the worst period in Nigerian history.
