Senator Magnus Abe who returned to a heroes welcome the other day has left many guessing over what will happen next in the APC.

Delivering a powerful speech on arrival in the State at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Abe revealed he would be the next governor of Rivers State.

The Senator who has turned out to be a powerful ally of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate said the APC could not afford to have a stranger in the saddle.

Abe’s words have been interpreted to mean that the party may have to substitute Pastor Tonye Cole before names of candidates are forwarded to INEC.

Cole was elected as the candidate of the party by delegates at a State Congress monitored by national party officials and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Abe insists Cole is a complete outsider, describing him as a ‘stranger’ in the APC family who has no business dreaming of leading the party to the forthcoming state elections.

In the build up to the 2019 General Elections, Cole had emerged as the flagbearer of the party,

But the spirited battle launched by Abe and his supporters had  denied the APC of its candidates through the courts, which held that the processes that threw them up were greatly flawed.

Exuding confidence, the Ogoni-born politician who has been in the trenches fighting with the former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi assured his supporters that better days are coming.

Abe’s remarks suggest that the focus has shifted from the fight over the APC’s presidential ticket at the national level to the issue of who ought to be the actual governorship candidate in Rivers State.

The senator has been in and out of courtrooms, trying as much as he can to cut the former Minister down to size.

With Tinubu in the saddle, the coast appears somehow clear for Abe and his men.

Events in the coming weeks would prove if indeed there will be a reversal of fortunes in Rivers State where Cole is poised to run the race of his life.
