Wike rushes to save flood victims, puts N1bn on the table 

Floods overtake Rivers communities, forcing villagers to flee their homes. 

One Billion Naira is to be spent on the rehabilitation of flood victims in Rivers State as water levels rise and farmlands and homes in some local government areas are threatened.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike who approved the sum of one billion naira said the money would be used for the provision of emergency relief materials.

He acknowledged that Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Areas are suffering more of the impact of this year’s flood.

Governor Wike expressed confidence that vulnerable families and low lying communities, particularly in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGAs,  would benefit from Government’s intervention.

Meanwhile, a Taskforce to coordinate the distribution of relief materials to affected communities in the State has been set up.

It is chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau (SSB) in the Office of the Secretary to the Government, Dr George Nwaeke while, Mrs Inime I. Aguma, is the Secretary.

Other members of the Taskforce are the Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Hon. Hope Ikiriko; Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, Hon. Vincent Job; Hon. Chukwuemeka Onowo and the Director of Administration in the Ministry of Special Duties.

The Port Harcourt Telegraph understands that members of the Taskforce are to meet with the Rivers governor at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Thursday.
