We are a  peaceful political party – PDP

The Rivers chapter of the PDP has denied playing any role whatsoever in the purported detonation of an improvised explosive device at the venue of a rally organised by the APC.

Reacting swiftly to a news briefing addressed by the opposition party in Port Harcourt, its Director of Publicity and Communications, Chief Ogbonna Nwuke, observed that the APC would stop at nothing to malign the PDP and deliberately misinform the people.

Nwuke argued that the PDP which has everything in its possession to win a free and fair election has no reason to embrace violence.

“The Police in Rivers State has already issued a clarification. The force has explained that no other political party came anywhere near the venue of the APC rally.

“The Police has further explained that there was a rift over money paid by the APC to the Rumuwoji community where the rally held.

“It is surprising that after the Police offered a comprehensive explanation on the matter, the APC will address the press to reel out accusations that are based on falsehood”, the PDP stated.

“You see, we are a peaceful political party”, the ruling party emphasized, “We understand our mission. We believe that everyone has a right to campaign.

APC, PDP party flags flutter in the wind. The struggle for power continues across Nigeria as the people get ready to decide.

“We have insisted, and continue to insist, on issue based campaigns. So, how can the APC accuse us of detonating an improvised explosive at the venue of their rally after the Police has waded into the matter?”

Dismissing the allegation thrown at it by the APC, the PDP stressed, there is a limit to what it described as.”reliance on incoherent propaganda.”

The statement noted that “No amount of name calling can change the truth, intimidate the PDP or deceive the people.”

The party revealed that it has equally investigated the claim by the APC that some of its members were involved in an alleged attack that the police has firmly said did not take place.

“Our independent investigation shows that neither the current Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government nor his predecessor in office named by the APC in its press briefing was anywhere near the venue of the rally”, the PDP noted.

“This people in the APC are very desperate. They are confused and they are talking and acting as thugs.

“There is nothing that they would not do to gain cheap popularity by deliberately spreading falsehood”, the statement added.

Recall that the APC had addressed the press Friday morning, claiming that the PDP had masterminded an attack to abort its rally in Port Harcourt.
