“All of us from Rivers State know who is who; We know who has killed many in this State” – Governor Wike
By PHC Telegraph
Governor Nyesom Wike, leader of the Rivers PDP has pointedly dismissed an allegation by Dr Abiye Sekibo, accusing him of sponsoring an assassination plot, even as he said Rivers people know who is who amongst them.
Reacting to the allegation levied against him, Wike insisted at a zonal rally of the PDP in the Rivers East Senatorial District that he is not the one whose hands are soiled by the blood of the innocent.
“I want to state categorically”, Wike remarked, “all of us from Rivers State know who is who. We know who has killed so many people in this State.”
The Governor recalled what transpired years ago when the Chibuike Amaechi administration set up the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, TRC.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission headed by late Justice Kayode Eso, Wike recounted, clearly indicted Dr. Abiye Sekibo.
“Justice Kayode Eso, retired justice of the Supreme Court of blessed memory, in a judicial panel report, indicted Abiye Sekibo as the head of cultists that killed so many people in Rivers State”, Wike stated.
Sekibo may have reconciled of late with Chibuike Amaechi, leader of the Rivers APC, who is believed to have joined forces with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate.
But the stigma of the indictment that he got from the TRC still sticks out like a sore thumb, many here say.
How the brick bat began:
Dr Sekibo, Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council in Rivers State had on Friday levied an accusation of attempted murder against Wike.
The former Secretary to Government of Rivers State sacked by the Obasanjo government as Minister of Transportation dropped the hint of an alleged move to kill him when he spoke to journalists.
He said that he had received a call, saying the venue meant for the use of the rally was on fire.
Sekibo said he made his way to the venue in the company of three policemen and ran into a barrage of gunfire as he approached the scene.
Wike Responds:
Addressing the zonal rally of the Rivers PDP, which held at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Governor Wike declared that he has never sponsored assassins against anybody.
Continuing, the State’s number one citizen who is obviously the object of Sekibo’s ferecious attack stressed that the DG of the Atiku Campaign Council had simply lied.
“Let me use the opportunity to debunk an allegation that some persons may have made that one Abiye Sekibo said that I sponsored assassination; attempted assassination; on his life.”
Governor Wike insisted that the allegation that the venue graciously approved by his administration for the PDP Presidential Campaign Council to hold its campaign rally was burnt down was not true.
“So, we granted approval for the candidate (presidential) of the party to hold their rally at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. I do know that if you go there today, no stadium has been burnt.
“It is impossible”, Wike emphasized, “for anybody to say” an attempt was made on “somebody’s life”, not to talk of the claim that “the place was burnt down. It is not correct.”
Governor Wike further persisted ” if there is anything like that, the person should report the matter to the police” so that “all those found culpable will face the wrath of the law.
Reminding Rivers people that this will not the first time that Sekibo and his associates will come up with diversionary claims, Wike said:
“If you know you don’t have capacity to mobilise support which you have promised some people say so. Do not carry propaganda against innocent people.”
Talking to the crowd, Governor Wike said the senatorial campaign rally was put together in furtherance of ongoing efforts to mobilise party members and Rivers voters.
“We decided to see that all the senatorial district hold themselves together as what we may call our rally.
“All I want to appeal to all of us is for all of us to continue to remain steadfast, and continue to mobilise our people as regards the forth coming election on February 25th and March 11th 2023. We all are aware at where we are heading to by the grace of God”, the Governor said.
